La cocina. The kitchen. The heart of every Latino family home where dishes from our various cultural legacies come alive and get passed on to the next generation. Some recipes remain unchanged and others undergo a fusion with other cultures and perhaps an infusion of a new ingredient; perhaps a new twist on an old favorite.
I vividly remember Sunday soups simmering on the stove brimming with vegetables, meat, and savory broth and boisterous family tamaladas where an army of aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, grandparents and cousins all took turns with the shucks, the masa, and the meat.
